It is 7:00 am Monday morning and the only thing that comes in your mind is “Whyyy – agaiiiin?” You want to stay in bed a little more, relax and sleep a little longer. But what if you could make mornings a friend of yours? What if you could become a morning person?
Mornings are the most important part of the day and how you start it will prepare you for the rest of it and at the end also shape it. If you find yourself being not productive enough in the morning and feeling weak you might have to change the way you receive mornings by changing your morning rituals. Of course there will always be days where it will be though to get up, but it is the first step in the right direction. Changing your mornings can change who you are as a person. It can make you stronger, more productive and more successful.
At the end it is important to find a ritual that works best for you and makes you feel energised, however here are a few ideas to make the best out of it.
Rise with the Sun
Wake up early in the morning and rise with the sun. Do not sleep in a complete dark room, this is known to cause depression in the morning and make getting up much harder. Waking up to the sun will make you feel more energetic. For those who are working a full time job, get up maybe one hour earlier to make the most of the day. It makes you feel relaxed and in sync with yourself and makes you more productive during the day. Try to wake up without checking your cell phone in bed. We all know this scenario – scrolling through Instagram all morning, checking emails or watching Youtube videos. It not only costs you a lot of time but can make you feel stressed. Instead try focusing on yourself and get up without distraction.
In fact research shows that morning people are more successful as they are more proactive and therefore have better job performance and job opportunities.
Make your bed
Making your bed is another important step for a morning routine. It gives you the feeling of being organised and that you have achieved something. You feel that you completed a task and feel more inclined to fulfil more.
Excercise or Stretch
You do not have to go to the gym, just a few stretches or even a walk with your dog around the house will make you feel more awake. Also if you will be sitting all day at work, this will prepare your body for the day and you will feel like you accomplished something already.
Never Skip Breakfast
I used to skip breakfast almost all the time. I felt it was too much work and I wasn’t even really hungry. However, recently I realised that I got headaches during the day and felt very tired and weak. Now i always prepare myself a little something, and if it is just a smoothie and a toast. It makes a huge difference. So never skip breakfast!
In our fast changing world and pressure on us, we often forget to be thankful and express gratitude. We let negative things come our way and take over. We complain. Ask yourself – how often do you say thank you for an another amazing day being healthy, being able to do all the things we take for granted every single day? Whether you express gratitude by saying a prayer, a little thanks to family and friends, or writing down 5 reasons to be thankful a day can make a difference. It not only makes you feel fulfilled, but sending out something good in the universe will
Write a plan for the day
Write a short to do list of what you need to do today. It helps you stay organised and not freak out that you won’t have enough time. Make yourself a plan Monday morning e.g. which blogpost you want to write during the week or a study plan for university.
Indulge in an activity that brings you joy
Do something which brings you joy, doesn’t matter if it is watching a Youtube Video or reading a book or cuddling with your significant other. It will prepare you for the day and bring you instant happiness and joy before heading to school or work. When you do something you love in the morning, mornings won’t seem that bad anymore and you will have something to look forward to.
Turn up the music
Music is always good to lift your spirits and make you smile. Maybe you can sing along and dance a little?
